I believe people and their stories are at the heart of it all.
Before you share your story with me, you will want to know a little bit about my story.
About Tiera
Kia ora. I'm Tiera Foy (she/her), a registered counsellor based in Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland. With 15 years of experience working with young people and families, including 7 years as a counsellor, I've supported clients in educational settings, bereavement support, community counselling services, and private practice.
My Approach: I offer a pluralistic counselling approach, integrating various evidence-based methods to suit your unique needs. At the core of my practice is person-centred therapy, ensuring that empathy, respect, and your individual experiences guide our work together. Read more about my approach.
Services:
Individual Counselling: Specialising in support for teens and adults facing challenges such as low mood, social anxiety, school refusal, life transitions, relationship issues, and self-esteem
Wellbeing Workshops: Providing tailored workshops and trauma-informed professional development for schools and workplaces.
Inclusive Practice: I am committed to creating a safe, affirming space for all individuals, including LGBTTQIA+ clients and those with autism or ADHD. My work with Rainbow organisations in schools has focused on fostering supportive environments for young queer individuals. I also engage in cultural supervision to ensure respectful and effective support for all clients.
Professional Standards: As a Member of the New Zealand Association of Counsellors (NZAC), I adhere to the NZAC Code of Ethics and all applicable laws as a health provider in New Zealand.
Personal Interests: Outside of my professional life, I cherish humour, curiosity, and connection. I'm a devoted pet owner and can’t get enough of the cute birds in my neighbourhood. I am that person who attempts to have a chat with every little animal passing by.
Live music moves me, whether at the symphony, folk festivals, or local venues. I love being part of an audience in a state of awe, excitement, confusion or even disappointment. I enjoy playing musical instruments, and am trying to rekindle this creative pursuit. Music brings so much to life.
Reading has been a lifelong passion, and I'm always on the lookout for new recommendations for my nightstand. Do you have any favs to recommend? I have always felt captured by stories, and so I also lean into films and good television. You will see me with a 10-pass in hand for NZIFF.
Nature walks and overnight hikes are a family tradition, and being outdoors can improve the worst of days. Growing up in Canada and now being a NZer, I have been spoilt for choice when it comes to beautiful places to wander. I have completed a few Great Walks, and hope to eventually tick them all off my list and the many more beautiful tramps across the motu.
Originally from Canada, I moved to the Coromandel over a decade ago and later settled in Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland. My heritage traces back to Ireland and the British Midlands, and I have a strong connection to my large family overseas.
Let's Talk it Through: I offer a complimentary chat to determine if we're the right fit. Reach out today, and let's start your journey toward well-being together.
